OK. I'll admit that I have neglected my DA account, especially the journal updating part. Not that anyone particularly cares about my opinions or daily goings-on, but I have to feel guilty about *something*. :)

All right. Where to start? When our hero journaled last, it was May 16. On May 28, my second daughter Zoe was born. She is now over 4 months old. I am a douche-nozzle for not posting about her arrival.

Zoe is 14 pounds of pure, unadulterated, over-saturated sweetness. She is the happiest little sweetheart of a baby. Sleeps through the night, is generally happy and smiling, and her little coos and babytalk melt her daddy's heart.

My oldest daughter Ella is now 3 and-a-half years old, which is so hard to believe it's ridiculous. She is growing up before my eyes, and is such a smart, funny, sweet girl... as well as a *wonderful* big sister.

As tough as being a stay-at-home parent can be, it definitely has its rewards.

Art-wise, it has been kind of slow, let's be honest. The last major painting I did was Fantasmas Y Alcoholes, but I have been doing a few live-painting gigs and started a great new piece at the last event I did, so that's on the horizon. Also, I've been doing a lot more digital work, trying to really find my children's book illustration style. I will post some of that when it's to a point that I deem viewable. All in all, it has been slow on the finishing end, but there are things in the works.

Other updates:
1. My wife and I realized a 15-year dream last night, when we went to see The Presidents of the United States of America play at the House of Blues. That show rocked our socks off. It was so much foot-stompin' good fun, I can't even tell you. Thanks for a great time, PUSA.

2. Today I am 37 years old.

3. Go Obama!

4. My new heroes are Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.

I belong to a collective of REALLY talented comics artists/writers called Cadre Corner. Although I am largely inactive because I'm a stay-at-home dad, I'm very proud to be among their ranks. Check us out! What follows is a call-out from our fearless leader:

Here are the known members of the Cadre Corner Studios here on DeviantArt... go check them all out and add to YOUR faves and friends lists folks... :D

:iconcadre::icon3113-studios::iconamusdey::iconangel-t::iconanmph::iconbillcorbett::iconbiomechlizardchick::iconbmoss::iconbooom::iconcomixnut::iconcornerstone-comic::iconcwhite02::iconden89::icondev0l::icondrkwtr1::iconfablewood::iconginmau::icongraxx::iconhany-khattab::iconintothenight13::iconjavilaparra::iconjohnnymorbius::iconlopmagazine::iconluisalonso::iconredliox::iconreybronx::iconrsoathman::iconsouthpawcreations::iconstikkmann::icontmjp::iconweb-head-uk:

Have you checked out any of these talented individuals? If not, be sure to do so and see the parts that help make up the whole of the Cadre Corner Studios.

We're happy to have them all in the "family" and are continuously looking to add more to the "family".

Here's how YOU could become part of the studios... There is no deadline on response time on this, the Cadre Corner Studios is recruiting talented individuals to be part of their community/online studio.

If you have what it takes and are willing to be part of a team effort or just feel you would like to contribute your abilities in the collective, be sure to let us know. Contact Jesse "Cadre" Hansen at cadre@cadrecorner.com. Subject Line: Potential membership If you have samples, send along in email and let us know what you like to specialize in be it pencilling, inking or whatever, we are working on numerous projects and perhaps you have a project of your own you would like to publish, let's hear it.

With the release of our debut title: Cornerstone, we hope to get an added response as well as more exposure. The release proves that we now have an avenue to expose and promote your talent other than freelance and website exposure.

Couple of questions for ya if you don't mind:
Are you part of a studio or bound to any type of group?
Have you ever thought of being part of a collective?

Cutting to the chase, I'd appreciate you take a few moments to look over our stuff at cadrecorner.com and see what ya think. If it's something you may be interested (or not for that matter) It would be greatly appreciated if ya give me a holler back.

Here's what we're all about:
Pretty simple really, since I approach the studio as more of a "family". We're all assembled simply to help one another grow, become better artists when able as well as get our own projects out. Helping one another if and when we can. (see Mission Statement at the top of our website)

There are no strings attached or anything, no contract which binds you to working solely for the studio or anything, in fact, our goal is to help one another make it in the big time or if already in the big league, to help promote and add exposure for ya.

Look over the new site, forums and gallery section, see if we're something you'd like to be a part of our community/studio.

I don''t ask anything of anyone unprepared for what lies in store.

We provide for all members:
1. A personal thread on the forums to have their voice to the public and keep everyone informed of their updates.
2. A site to post news, updates and or news releases on current projects.
3. A gallery to showcase their talents which is totally maintained by said creators, you control what's in your portfolio.
4. A chance to improve and work with other professionals all with the same desire– to get better as creators and as people. To grow.
5. When opportunities are presented to us, we automatically make all members aware and allow them first crack before looking outside the studio for the potential clients.
6. We are now officially a publisher with the release of Cornerstone and hope to expand that title base to at least four titles within the next year, so there are avenues to expand and get your creations out there in house as well.
7. Representation at shows when applicable or able.

We ask in return:
1. Professional mentality and representation to the masses.
2. Participation, whether it's on the forums interacting with others, responding to emails in regards to management requests or even perhaps at conventions and/or shows.
3. Assist one another. if you're in need, we try to step up and help and ask the same in return.

That's about all we ask, pretty cut and dry really. I look at all members as parts of my own family and treat everyone as such.

As we are all either already in the industry being productive or for those that are awaiting their chance to explore those avenues, our best attribute is that we care for one another's goals and achieving said goals.

We supply an online gallery, a dedicated thread on the forums and a place to tell people what you're working on which can be reached all in one spot. If there are projects in the works that can be promoted; we help do so any way we can.

YOU would control what is in your gallery most importantly.

Payment would be on a case by case basis; if someone has a project that needs something and has the funds to pay for said services, then the two parties work that stuff out privately. That being said, I do a lot of inking for fellow members for free to help the cause; but again, thats on a case by case basis. Not everything mind you. Gotta pay the bills too. lol.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jesse "Cadre" Hansen

I've noticed that for a large portion of my art, I don't necessarily have one cohesive style. I'm not entirely sure if this is a good or bad thing.

On one hand, it seems that having an identifying "style" can sort of brand you to the viewing public, but on the other, I can see how it would pigeonhole an artist. I have not given tons of consideration to what "my" style is over the years, so it hasn't troubled me one way or another overmuch.

I am interested in your take on the subject, however. What do you think? How have considerations of style affected your art-making decisions? Do you even worry about it?

Discuss!

In other news, happy holidays... whatever your spiritual affiliation. Let's all have some happy.
